We had a fantastic time again this year at InspireSong 2018! What a wonderful group of folks who attended, shared their talent and wisdom, and “Created With the Creator”! Our mentors were amazing, and they loved coming to Aspen for InspireSong.
Once again this year, we partnered with WORD Worship, and they had many of their top songwriters come out to Aspen, not only for InspireSong, but for their own songwriter retreat. They visited Glen Frey’s old studio, now called “Mad Dog” in Old Snow Mass and wrote songs together for 2 days before InspireSong. They all stayed at a rustic cabin in downtown Aspen next to our host hotel, The Annabelle Inn
We had perfect weather for this years event! Sunny and 70 every day and cool at night, perfect for our lunches at Crossroads, and evening fire pit and ‘smores networking times!
We had many “God Moments” that were remarkable! Not only did attendees learn more about their art and the craft of songwriting, they also experienced the Lord move on their hearts, breaking through barriers that blocked their conduits of creativity.
And that is what InspireSong is all about! Coming to the mountain, and seeking the Lord to receive His mission and vision for their creativity. We heard from some attendees that they had breakthroughs in not only their creativity, but their lives.
Worship was wonderful as well, with Chris Cleveland (Stars Go Dim) leading us on Friday and Rebekah White leading us on Saturday and Sunday morning during services at Crossroads Church of Aspen, our host.
The event kicked off with our mentors sharing their songs at our open to the public “songwriters in the round” concert on Thursday evening. We heard many powerful songs, and the music was off the charts!
The winner of the InspireSong 2018 Songwriting contest, Karl Penn sang his winning song at the open to the public “songwriters in the round” concert held on Thursday night.
It was a special moment and later during the event, Karl gave away his grand prize of having Ian Eskelin produce his winning song to 14 year old attendee from New Foundland, Ethan Lane. Ethan shared a new song during the song critique session live on his guitar in front of hit songwriter Tony Wood, Ian Eskelin, Rebekah White, Trevor Mathieson (WORD Publishing exec) and they all were very impressed! Like our previous events, we split attendees up into small groups to co-write a song together. After dinner, they took the stage and shared their songs. This is one of their favorite activities!
The only bad part of InspireSong was having to leave Aspen!
Inspiresong was definitely what the name says: Inspiring and full of Songs!
The Song contest was fun and surprising as the winner gave up his recording prize to a 14-year old boy who definitely deserved a prize for his song “Warrior”, which will inspire youth across the nation to stand up for Jesus. The presenters from Word Records and Publishing and CCLI were informative for any level of songwriting experience. They also showcased some of their songs in the Thursday Night Concert, focusing on Worship. Attendees got a chance to share our songs at the Friday night Concert. It was lots of fun to hear people from all over the USA and Canada writing in various genres. As we worshipped many prayers were answered, doors were opened, and dreams made into reality. I made good friends, some of whom offered to help further my ministry, taking it to the next level. I’m so glad I went and I look forward to the next Inspiresong Conference.
Hope to see you there!
God moved in so many at INSPIRESONG 2018, including myself as I got a refreshing of the fire of God. We were on the mountian and so was God as we wrote together, prayed with each other and sang together.
Let God INSPIRE us as we come back to our cities to take what was given out to a new level to impact the world for the Kingdom of God. Let it out!!! New melodies being birthed. Watch and see what God is doing for HE REALLY IS DOING A NEW THING.
LOVE ALL OF YOU.
Muriel and I were deeply touched by our experience at InspireSong, and I want to express my heartfelt thanks to you and Sue for what you achieved and provided.
More important that the content of any such event, I value the sincerety and hearts of the folks involved – especially of the folks in charge.
By this measure, InspireSong was off the charts! What a refreshing change from most of the Nashville “Expert” meetings I’ve attended.
You clearly brought together some of the most God-loving and simultaneously humble and wanting to serve folks in the music industry. I’m sold.
We’ll certainly plan on coming back next year.
And I’ll be putting what I learned to good use!
Upon my return I received a text from the director of the music composition department of Broadneck High School in Annapolis, MD. They are involved in the Anne Arundal Performing and Visual Arts Magnet program. https://www.aacps.org/PVA
She has asked me to do a 1 hour session on three days (5/21, 5/23, & 5/25).
It will be my first opportunity to teach outside of our song circle, and I am really looking forward to it.
InspireSong provided me the opportunity to present my work to some of the most talented people in Christian music. What happens next is in God’s hands, but I am confident that some of the relationships that began last weekend will grow. Foremost among them, I value you and Sue, as having modeled the deepest parental hearts. I look forward to the opportunities to get to know you both much better in the months and years ahead.

A little over 9 months ago, God made a specific requirement of me to trust Him in a bigger way. At that time, He told me to take my hands off of my Americana music career. I was really striving for success, and it was wearing me out physically, as well as emotionally and spiritually. (Wrong focus.)
So in the following months, I only did the minimal to keep things going forward with my Americana music career. I felt that there would be a shift in my music, but I wasn’t sure how that would happen and what it would look like. I had spent many months in what I call “limbo”, torn between two very different directions: continuing in Americana, or focusing on a new direction in Christian music.
A few months back, I got an e-mail from Word Worship about the conference. I really felt God telling me to join up, so I did. I knew that I would get the answer I was looking for at the conference.
I had been feeling for awhile that my music was supposed to head in the worship direction again, after an almost 8-year break from it. I was just afraid for a few reasons. God opened a door for that direction during the conference, plus made it really clear to me, that despite the fear that comes with the change, and the gargantuan work of “starting over”, that I am supposed to do a worship group with my children, Lilly and Aggie, called Terce. (Terce. has been a brain-child for 5 years, but it wasn’t time to start focusing on it until now. I had tried a few times.)
God’s timing is everything. Walking in His will is ultimate. Going to Inspiresong helped me to know that it was finally time to implement the vision He had given me, and to put my focus on it. My fears were put to rest.
Now I’m confident in taking steps in growing the work that God has called me to in the worship genre.
Thanks so much for having Inspiresong!
Here is my testimony from what I experienced at InspireSong 2018.
Had a wonderful weekend getting refreshed and inspired to write more songs and it was an amazing time to get in touch with Jesus.
Sometimes we need that time to get away and get back in touch with our God.
I remember times we would have women’s retreats with our church and have amazing times in the mountains. And my soul still longs for that.
The worship there was Amazing – led by Rebekah White. And it was SOO powerful.
Now, I LOVE to worship. I love to sing in church and blend with the people around me… I love singing to God in church and anywhere… But the spirit I felt there was so powerful, that I could NOT even sing. As she sang and led the church in worship, I could feel His presence so deeply and so real, I just got so emotional, that the tears just flowed down my cheeks and the words would NOT come out. I could not speak or sing… all I could do was FEEL Him.
And it made me think about the song “I Can Only Imagine” where it talks about seeing Jesus face to face and the line that says “Will I sing Hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all?” And I realized, I will NOT even be able to SPEAK when I see Him, because He is so amazing and wonderful to me, I don’t think I will be able to even muster out the words “Thank you.” Which will only prove He can do miracles, to silence ME… when it seems the only thing I ever do is talk and sing 🙂 … but how AMAZING it will be to one day be in His actual presence!
The songs we sang this weekend were “Spirit Move” – “Better is One Day” – “Lord I Need You”
Best Mother’s Day EVER – to be in God’s Presence like that.
Another song we sang during the conference that really moved me was, “One Moment in His Presence Changes Everything!” – How TRUE is that? Jesus changes EVERYTHING!
I am so thankful to have been able to attend, and to get in touch with the Creator like that. Thank you InspireSong for all you did this weekend, to make me feel welcome, to teach me, and to inspire me to keep writing! God bless you for all you do for indie artists who long to serve Him!
